Catalysts

Catalysts accelerate chemical reactions and play an important role in the manufacturing process of familiar products, but we are rarely aware of their existence. Our target catalysts are those used to purify automobile exhaust as well as those necessary for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. Across a wide range of catalyst applications, we develop appropriate processing methods and extract precious metals.

Automotive Catalysts

Partnering with automakers, catalyst manufacturers, and dismantlers to build a sustainable future together

Through automotive catalyst recycling, we promote the effective use of precious metal resources and contribute to the realization of a sustainable society. We recover, with high precision, rare precious metals such as platinum, palladium, and rhodium contained in automotive catalysts. Through reduction of losses in the manufacturing process and other appropriate processing methods, we protect the environment and contribute to the development of the industry.
In addition, with the growing adoption of xEVs, we will strengthen the recovery of not only automotive catalysts but also in-vehicle electrical components by leveraging our accumulated know-how in the e-scrap business, and provide comprehensive solution services for the recovery of precious metals in the mobility sector.

Our strengths in the automotive catalyst area

We value our partnerships with automakers, catalyst manufacturers, and dismantlers, and properly collect materials generated in the manufacturing process, off-spec products, and catalytic converters removed during automobile dismantling. Since precious and rare metals contained in catalysts are highly valuable, they contribute to cost reductions through improved recovery rates in the manufacturing process. In addition, in automobile dismantling, they serve as an important source of revenue, along with the sale of steel scrap and parts. We use the latest technology and expertise to extract maximum value from catalysts by recovering precious metals with high purity and efficiency. This ensures proper processing with minimal environmental impact while supporting your company's profitability to the fullest extent.

In addition, we have a system in place to ensure a stable supply of palladium while avoiding the risk of fluctuations in palladium market prices. Such a recycling system enables a sustainable resource procurement model. Compared to mining, our recycling of precious metals reduces CO₂ emissions to one-tenth, thus contributing to global environmental protection. Together with our business partners, we aim to develop a sustainable industry through business activities that harmonize economic efficiency, environmental protection, and social responsibility.

Chemical Catalysts

Precious metal recycling to support sustainable chemical synthesis and the synthetic pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries

We recover platinum, palladium, and rhodium catalysts used in chemical synthesis and in the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries’ manufacturing processes, refine the precious metals contained in them, and provide high-purity recycled precious metals. By doing so, we support sustainable procurement of raw materials for manufacturing. In recent years, as synthetic pharmaceutical and agrochemical manufacturing has increasingly been outsourced in Japan, there is a growing need for flexible and efficient use of chemical catalysts generated in various forms. We are constantly developing our recovery technology to meet a variety of requests.

High quality recycling that meets international standards

Our greatest strength is the ability to provide a stable supply of high-purity PGM that meets the strict quality standards of chemical synthesis and the synthetic pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries by utilizing one of the largest recycling plants in Japan and our advanced refining technology. It enables the effective utilization of limited resources while maintaining its performance as an important chemical catalyst in manufacturing processes. In addition, our recycled PGM is internationally certified by LPPM and RJC, and we have established a supply route that ensures traceability. The use of internationally certified recycled materials is an effective means of achieving safe and ethical resource procurement.

The precious metals we recycle also contribute to reducing environmental impact. Compared to mining, PGM recovery through recycling can reduce CO₂ emissions to approximately one-tenth, enabling sustainable chemical synthesis and production of medical and agrochemical products with minimal impact on the global environment. Through our recycling technology, we will contribute to the realization of an environmentally and socially friendly society.

Hydrogen

Precious metal recycling to support a hydrogen society

We contribute to sustainable hydrogen production by providing high-purity recycled precious metals. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), global demand for hydrogen is projected to grow by about five times by 2050 compared to 2022 levels. Although the steel and chemical industries have been the main sources of hydrogen demand, the mobility industry is expected to emerge as a major user in the future. Against the backdrop of this growing demand, the construction of hydrogen production plants, mainly in the chemical industry, is accelerating in Japan and abroad, and at the same time, demand for the recycling of catalytic electrodes needed in the manufacturing process is increasing. We recycle PGMs from these catalytic electrodes and supply them again as raw materials for the hydrogen production process, thereby promoting circular resource use.

High-quality recycling for the clean energy era

Our greatest strength is the ability to provide a stable supply of high-purity PGM suitable for the hydrogen production process by utilizing one of the largest recycling plants in Japan and our advanced refining technology. The performance of electrodes is important in hydrogen production, and our recycling technology makes it possible to reuse recycled materials while maintaining high quality. In addition, our recycled precious metals are internationally certified, and we have established a supply route that ensures traceability. Most of the precious metals needed for hydrogen production depend on mined resources, and in some areas there are concerns about environmental destruction and human rights issues in relation to mining.

Our recycled materials address these challenges while providing a stable and ethical supply of resources. Furthermore, compared to mining, recovery by recycling can reduce CO₂ emissions to approximately one-tenth, significantly reducing environmental impact.
We will contribute to decarbonization efforts to create a hydrogen society and support ESG management and achievement of SDG targets. In addition, we are working with partner companies on research and development of hydrogen production using waste power generation, and are open to collaboration and partnerships in hydrogen production. Contact us to discuss any issue from hydrogen production to recycling.
